Island Silba

It is the island between Olib and Premuda with the area of 14.9 sq. kilometers. It has picturesque gravel and sand beaches and numerous coves. The only settlement on the island is Silba. The island has permanent ship connection with Zadar, Rijeka and Pula.

The island has been inhabited since the Roman period. After the Romans, the island was owned by the monastery and families from Zadar. Silba used to be famous of fishermen, wine-growers and seamen. In the 18th century, in the age of sailing-ships, it had its own fleet (98 bigger sailing ships). The rich memories of the past are kept in the museum collection.
