The island with the area of 28.8 sq. kilometers in the vicinity of Trogir and Split connected with the mainland by the draw bridge (in Trogir). There are a few caves on the island. It is partially covered with macchia and people there groves olives, figs, and citrus fruits. It is known since antiquity. The small early Romanesque church of Oui Lady Beside the Sea and the Dominican monastery of St. Cross are preserved in the village of Čiovo.
