Beaches on the island Brac:

Town Bol has beautiful beach Zlatni Rat, full of pebbles and sporty activities like diving, water skiing, jet-skiing, surfing, rafting, renting a boat or a pedal boat and parachuting . The beach can be crowded during summer months. But you can find secret beaches in place Murvica by road from place Bol. Beautiful beaches are also in places Milna, Sutivan, Supetar, Postire.

About the island Brac:

This is the largest central Dalmatian island and the third largest on the whole Adriatic, with area of 394.6 sq. kilometers. It is also the highest island on the Adriatic- 778 meters high Vidova gora is highest island peak in Croatia.

It has about 14,000 inhabitants in 22 settlements. The climate is gentle Mediterranean. The biggest settlements are Supetar and Pučišća. The main agricultural products are olive oil, wine and fruit (cherries and almonds), and recently some new cultures (kiwi). There are ma­ny sheep-farms and people are fish­ing, too. There are famous quarries (the famous stone from Brač) on the island near Pučišća, Selca, Postire, Splitska, and Donji Humac.
I he island has been inhabited since Neolithic, with numerous finds from the Bronze and Iron Age. The first known inhabitants are Illyrians. The Romans left nu­merous traces, both on the coast and in the inland: the stone quar­ries near Škrip were exploited dur­ing the reign of the emperor Diocletian.
Today, Brač is one of the most developed islands on the Adriatic, considering tourism. It has airport and many tourist centers such as Bol, Supetar, Milna, etc.
The ferryboat connection with the mainland is on the lines: Split -Supetar, Makarska - Sumartin.

Places on the island Brac:

SUPETAR
The small town and harbor on the northern coast. In the surroundings people have olive-groves, vineyards, and orchards. Tourism and fishing also have an important role in local economy. There is a sand swimming beach in the large cove Vlačica. The coast between Mirac in the west, and Splitska in the east, is abundant with beautiful beaches. Two kilometers west of Supetar is Vela luka with two beaches and a pine forest.

BOL
This is of the coastal settlements on the southern side of the island, on the foot of the highest hill, Vidova gora. Bol is also the biggest tourist center of the island because of its world famous beach - Zlatni rat. There are also many sand bea­ches in the nearby coves (Martinica, Blaca, Konjska, Murvica etc.). The place was inhabited already in the antiq­uity (finds of coins, inscriptions, pottery, the Early Christian sar­cophagi, the remains of the Roman water reservoir). The fragments of the wattle-work ornaments in the church of St. Ivan (probably from the 11th century) and the remains from the Old Croatian period were also found in the wall of the Dominican monastery. On the promontory Glavice is the church Dominican monastery found 1475. The monastery has collection of cultural and art objects (paintings, manuscripts, old coins, incunabula's).

POSTIRA
The village and small hart on the northern coast. In inland is a fertile valley with vineyards and vegetable gardens. The people there work in agriculture, but they are also fishermen and stone-masons.
Many beautiful coves with swim­ming beaches are in the vicinity. The most famous are Prvja and Lovrečina.
Numerous small pine fore­sts wretch in the surroundings, towards Splitska. The parish church in the village was built in the 16th century.

PUČIŠĆA
The port and the largest settle­ment on the island, located on the northern coast in a well sheltered cove. It is the center of the stone mason's trade with three large stone quarries in the vicinity. A few finds from the antiquity were found on the site Čad: inscriptions, frag­ments, sculptures. In the parish church there is a number of valu­able paintings. The altar of St. Ante in that church is one of the best works of Dalmatian wood-carving from the Renaissance period.

POVJA
The place on the north-eastern coast, in the cove of the same name. People have olive-groves and vineyards, and they are also fisher­men. The surrounding coves have nice swimming beaches.
There are remains of Roman walls on the site Žalo. The Early Christian basilica from the 5th-6th century is preserved in the center of the village. The tower for the defense against the Turkish attacks was raised next to the church several times reconstructed.

SUTIVAN
Village and harbor on the north coast with beautiful beaches. Brside the wall of the church John from the 16th century, there are preserved bases and fragments of the architectural decoration of the Early Christian church from the 6th century. The citadel of the Marjanović family from 1772, with sun-clock is on the coast. Interesting architecture can be seen on the houses of the Natali-Božićević family from the 16th century, and of the Delfinis family with collection of art objects and furniture.

MILNA
The place on the western of the island, located in the cove of the same name. It is the best natural harbor on the island (therefore the marina is located there). Beautiful coves with sand and gravel beaches stretch along the coast (Pasika, Lučice, Osibova, Maslinova). There is a swimming beach in the cove Vlaška.
Hotel: Kastel Jela.
Marina: ACI MILNA, located in the deep hay of the same name. It has 200 places on the floating docks and 20 places on the dry docks, parking lot, reception room, crane (10 t), and technical services. It is open through the whole year. The guests can use toilets, laundries, shops, re­staurant, snack-bar, shipyard with five slipways.

BLACA
It used to be hermitage (eremitorium), founded in 1550 by the priests from Poljice that escaped before the Turkish invasion. It has a few smaller buildings, mutually connected by corridors and stair­cases. The church was built in 1588 and later renovated. Eremitorium has a big library, Glagolitic missals, a number of portraits from the 18th century, and a few baroque paint­ings. Since 1926, there is also the astronomic observatory. The only way to reach Blaca is from the sea. First you have to come to the cove and then to walk about two kilome­ters up the hill (on the altitude of 250 meters).

THE OTHER SETTLEMENTS
ON THE ISLAND:
Splitska, Sumartin (on the coast); and Nerežišća, Gornji Humac, Selca (in inland).
